Equality Impact Assessments
Horsham District Council is developing its Equality Impact Assessments in order to improve the work of the Council.
The purpose of the Assessment is to improve the work of the Council by making sure it does not discriminate and that, where possible, it promotes Equality. It is a way to make sure that individuals and teams think carefully about the likely impact of their work on the people who work within the Council and the impact on the residents of Horsham and take action to improve strategies, policies and services where appropriate.
There is a legal requirement to consider the impact of the Council's work on race, disability and gender equality. The Equality Impact Assessment helps Council staff to assess and record the likely equalities impact of a proposed Council strategy, policy or service on different groups of people.
Carrying out an assessment means that as far as possible, any negative consequences of a strategy, policy or service are eliminated or minimised and opportunities for promoting equality are maximised. The Council has decided to embark on two different Equality Impact Assessment templates, one for services, and one for policies/strategies and procedures.
We welcome feedback on our Equality Impact Assessments and we view Equality Impact Assessments as work in progress rather than an end in itself. All completed Equality Impact Assessments are published on this website and are viewable using the links on the right of this page.
During the review of future strategy, policy or services, we will use previous Equality Impact Assessments and modify where appropriate to refine our work to ensure that all residents of the Horsham District are considered in our business.
