Climate Change and Sustainability
Sustainability and Climate Change
Sustainability is about ensuring that the actions and decisions we take today meet everyone’s needs now, without reducing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is based on the understanding that the quality of our lives, and the state of our communities, are affected by a combination of social, economic and environmental factors.
Climate Change is one of the biggest global challenges we are currently facing. The greenhouse gases we produce through everyday activity are changing the world’s climate. To mitigate the impact of climate change, we will all have to work together to achieve more sustainable lifestyles.
Horsham District Council has produced its first Climate Change Strategy to plan the actions needed to meet the demanding cuts in greenhouse gas emissions that are required. Full details of the Strategy can be found by visiting the Acting Together website .
The Strategy commits us to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for the District by 26% up to 2020 and 80% by 2050.
It is clear that Horsham District Council cannot achieve these targets in isolation. Climate change can only be tackled if we act together.
With so many mixed messages in the media, it can be difficult to know where to start. To help residents, there is lots of advice and information available on the Acting Together website.
