FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT THE Y CENTRE
The main service to be provided in the new Y Centre will be accommodation for 48 young people aged 16 to 30 from the local area that find themselves in need of somewhere to live. They will be both men and women and 41 of them will live in self-contained studio flats with their own bathroom and kitchenette. Seven others will have separate bedrooms but share bathrooms and kitchens, which will allow the youngsters to get to know each other and support their peers.
The kind of support each resident will receive will depend on exactly what they need. For some, the hand of friendship and low-key support is enough. Others, because of the circumstances behind their homelessness such as fractured family relationships and perhaps conflict and abuse mean they need more. Specially trained and experienced youth, community and housing workers will be on hand at the Horsham Y to help each young person who walks through their doors through their journey from teenager to adulthood.
One of the ways the Horsham Y Centre will support its young residents is by providing access to IT, as well as training to help them use the technology to research information that they need to further their own lives, as well as skills for working and learning.
Facilities for the community
Horsham’s businesses and community groups will also benefit from the Y Centre as there will be a selection of different sized conference rooms available for hire. And as the Centre is located in Albion Way, right in the heart of the town, these rooms are perfectly placed for meetings, training sessions and working groups.
