WASTE MANAGE AND ECO SCHOOLS

The Eco Schools programme is an internationally recognised project organised by ENCAMS in England.  The programme promotes environmental awareness in schools and links to many curriculum subjects; enhancing childrens learning.

It encourages the entire school to work together with the local community, parents, the local authority, media and local businesses to help them operate with the minimum amount of impact on the environment.  The scheme's aims will enable children to become effective and responsible citizens as they work towards developing a sustainable school environment.

The Eco Schools programme focuses on nine themes:

  • Litter
  • Waste
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Transport
  • Healthy Living
  • School Grounds
  • Biodiversity
  • Global Perspective

Horsham District Council supports the Eco Schools programme and is able to offer some advice and guidance to schools wishing to take part.
