The Public Health and Licensing Department was formerly named Environmental Health.  Food hygiene, pollution control, housing standards, health and safety at work, public safety licensing including taxis and private hire, animal welfare licensing, pest control, infectious diseases and food poisoning, public health nuisances and stray dogs are the key services of the department.

Working in close partnership with West Sussex Primary Care Trust, the Public Health and Licensing Department promotes good health in line with the Government's health improvement strategies.
