REDUCING BUSINESS WASTE

It is estimated that small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) generate up to 60% of the UK’s commercial waste and cause 80% of pollution incidents.

Waste can typically cost businesses 4–5% of turnover.  By adopting smart waste management techniques businesses can reduce costs and realise other resource savings.

The first priority should be to reduce the amount of waste generated, to re-use materials where possible, and then recycle.

The West Sussex Sustainable Business Partnership (WSSBP) promotes and helps implement sustainable practices in all West Sussex businesses.

WSSBP can offer:

  • Training Courses that focus on utility management (water, waste and energy) and Environmental Management Systems.
These courses can help businesses understand the true cost of wasting resources and help to identify where to cut wastage, comply with legislation and make savings.
  • Legislation Workshops
Businesses need to be aware of changing legislation, how it affects them and how to plan for future changes.
  • Initial Environmental Reviews
Help businesses identify where wastage is occurring in their business and help to improve their resource efficiency.
