HEALTH AND SAFETY

The Public Health and Licensing Department carries out enforcement duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 in a range of commercial premises including:-
- retailing
- some warehouses
- most offices
- hotels
- catering
- sports
- leisure
- consumer services
- places of worship
We also:-
- provide advice, education and training for owners of businesses and their staff and people setting up in business for the first time
- register premises where people work in offices, shops, warehouses etc..
- investigate accidents at work.
- investigate complaints about working conditions
- strive to ensure a consistent and fair approach in accordance with the Councils Enforcement Policy.
- provide a range of useful information leaflets
- liaise regularly with the Health and Safety Executive who are responsible for other businesses such as factories, building sites, schools, etc.
