Local Development Framework

The preparation of planning policy documentation and guidance in Horsham District is done by the Strategic Planning Team.

The 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (updated 2008) changed the nature of planning policy in England and introduced the need for local authorities to produce ‘spatial’ planning policies that go beyond traditional land use planning.

In 2007, the Horsham District Local Plan 1997 was completely replaced by the new Local Development Framework (LDF) which is a portfolio of statutory spatial planning documents, the principal of which is the Core Strategy (adopted February 2007).

The Council’s Local Development Framework website gives the details and full text of all the documents adopted or being prepared. In addition it explains how you can get involved or have your say in helping to prepare LDF documents in Horsham District.

National Planning Policy Guidance notes (PPG), and their replacements Planning Policy Statements (PPS), can be found on the Communities and Local Government website.
