YOUR GARDEN WASTE SERVICE IS CHANGING

From 1 April 2013 Horsham District Council operates a chargeable opt-in service for garden waste collections. From 1 June bins that do not have a valid membership sticker on display will no longer be emptied.

If you have already signed up to the service but not received your sticker:

  • We will ensure everyone who signed up on or before Saturday 18 May will receive their bin sticker before Saturday 1 June
  • if you signed up after 18 May then we will post your sticker by first class mail within 10 working days

Please call us only if you do not receive your sticker within these timescales and we will act swiftly to resolve the problem.

Details of the change to this service have been communicated through a series of leaflets and letters delivered to all homes in the area since February 2013.

You can join the scheme at any time but the full annual charge for the period ending 31 March 2014 will apply. Membership stickers are usually dispatched within 10 working days of application and must be displayed on your bin to ensure collection.

Like all councils in West Sussex, Horsham District Council is receiving less money from the Government and is facing difficult decisions to balance income against the cost of delivering services. We believe it is fairer that only residents that choose to participate in the scheme should pay for the service.

The annual cost of the service is just £29 for your existing bin, replacement or additional bins are available to buy, with the cost of emptying each additional bin at your property just £15. There is no limit to the number of additional bins you can pay to have emptied. The charge applies for the period 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014 and remains the same whenever you join during the year. We will continue emptying all bins during April  and May to allow enough time for everyone to sign up for the service. If you do not have valid membership sticker displayed on your bin from the 1 June 2013 it will not be emptied.

What happens next?

To allow sufficient time for you to sign up in the first year we will continue to empty your brown-topped bin throughout April and May 2013. If you do not join the scheme you will need to find an alternative way of dealing with your garden waste. If you do not have valid membership sticker displayed on your bin from the 1 June 2013 it will not be emptied.
