GYPSY, TRAVELLER AND TRAVELLING SHOWPEOPLE SITES PREFERRED OPTIONS CONSULTATION DOCUMENT
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires Local Authorities to prepare Local Plan Documents for their area. The Core Strategy is the overarching document that outlines the long- term vision and spatial objectives for our District and includes strategic policies that are needed to deliver that vision. Policy CP 16, Inclusive Communities, of the Core Strategy requires that positive measures are taken to create socially inclusive and adaptable environments for a range of people and lists the need to meet the needs of gypsies and travellers, amongst others.
This Preferred Options document proposes to safeguard existing authorised Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople sites and sets out a number of sites that are proposed for use as permanent Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople sites to meet an existing need within the District.
The Council published the Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople Preferred Options document for an 8 week consultation period between the 6th July and 31st August 2012.
A Sustainability Appraisal/ Strategic Environmental Assessment (SA/SEA document) was also published alongside it.
