Housing Register
If you consider that you have a housing need, please come in to the council to discuss your case with a housing officer. We operate a drop-in service between 10am - 11:30am and 2pm - 3:30pm (Mon-Fri). We will see anyone who has a housing issue, please ensure that you bring some form of photo ID with you as you will not be seen without it.
If you are assessed as having a housing need, you will be advised to apply to join the Housing Register by completing a housing application form.
A Self Assessment Medical Form is also available for completion if you feel that your current accommodation is affecting your health or the health of a member of your family.
The Council no longer has any properties. We transferred 4,600 homes to a newly formed Housing Association Saxon Weald in December 2000. We do however have nomination rights to a proportion of these properties that become available for relet. This means that we match up available properties to people who are homeless or are on our general Housing Register. We also nominate people to other Housing Associations which have properties in the district. Our Housing Register and Nominations Policy has been reviewed and a copy is available to download.
**We have a distinct shortage of available properties in the District, and demand by far outstrips supply**.
In April 2008 we changed the way that applicants are assessed for housing from a points-based system to banding. We have bands A-D, and we nominate for properties by band and date order. We define our bands in the following ways:
The following criteria help us to decide the relative priority of an applicant:
- Relative assessment need for Housing
- Local connection to the Horsham District / or any relevant Parish
- Time spent in your current band
