Housing Options
Welcome to your Housing Options area. If you are looking for a home, we categorise your options as follows:
Join the Council’s Housing Register
If you are assessed as having a housing need, you can apply to join the Housing Register by coming into the council between 10am - 11:30am and 2pm - 3:30pm (Mon-Fri). We will see anyone who has a housing issue, please ensure that you bring some form of photo ID with you as you will not be seen without it.
We have a shortage of available properties in the District, and demand by far outstrips supply.
If you have a problem with disrepair, please see the attached disrepair leaflet
If you have a need to move for medical reasons, please see the attached need to move medical leaflet
If you have a need to move because you are overcrowded, please see the attached need to move overcrowding leaflet
If you need to move due to a relationship breakdown, please see the attached need to move relationship breakdown leaflet
If you are facing homelessness, please see the attached facing homelessness leaflet
Stay at home with help from us
We work with a range of organisations within the community that can offer you help and advice on remaining in your own home. Advice can be given on areas such as debt, managing your money, rights and welfare.
We also provide a range of assistive technology through Community Link, helping you to live independently in your own home with peace of mind.
Low cost home ownership
HomeBuy is a government funded initiative to provide low cost, affordable homes. Moat help people who wish to buy a property but are unable to raise a mortgage large enough to do so, and key workers who wish to rent but cannot afford to pay market rents.

Buy or rent in the private sector
If you are in the private sector, we are able to assist vulnerable and poorer homeowners with repairs and improvements, especially where this benefits health or allows people to remain in their own homes. A range of private sector grants are available; for repairs, energy efficiency, disabled facilities and empty properties.
