Horsham Sparks InThe Park

Horsham's Big Day Out

Horsham Park
Sunday 15 July 2012, from 12noon - 5pm

Horsham prepares to celebrate the London 2012 Games with a free Summer Spectacular in Horsham Park - a free family event organised by Horsham District Council.
Location Map for the event.

Following on from last year’s successful event, Horsham's 2012-themed Park spectacular looks to be even bigger and better this year with plenty of entertainment for all to participate in and enjoy.

Final details and celebrity appearances are still to be confirmed but we can guarantee plenty of sporting fun, live music, dance, creative workshops, circus skills and lots of international refreshments. Younger children will enjoy the Active Play Zone including inflatable fun, soft play and entertainment whilst older children can look forward to the thrills provided by Bensons Fun Fair.  Sparks in the Park will finish with a grand finale of the flamboyant and colourful Rio-themed Carnival parade.

Bensons Funfair will be open from Friday 13 through to late on Sunday 15 July.

Sports Zone
The Sports Zone is a major part of the event programme with Have-a-Go Sports for all to watch or to take part in including badminton, volleyball, urban rebounding, football, karate, tennis, tri-golf and more. Horsham Park Bowls Club will be hosting a free Open Day and the nearby Pavilions in the Park team will be offering special activities throughout the afternoon.

As part of this Sports Zone Horsham's ‘Set4Success Horsham District Youth Challenge’ will take place where elite atheletes from local schools will compete against eachother as part of the launch of the new Set4Success funding scheme now established to support young Horsham District sporting champions of the future.

Rio Carnival
One of the Sparks in the Park highlights this year will be the Rio Carnival; an energetic, colourful and flamboyant carnival procession through Horsham Park with some fantastic giant-size costumes. Throughout the afternoon visitors can take part in ceative workshops and samba drumming sessions. Visitors should get to the park early to get their creations made in time for the parade at 4pm.

Within the carnival procession is the Blue Touch Paper section supported by the Strawford Centre, Horsham. The Blue Touch Paper project brings disabled and non disabled people together to plan, share skills and make top quality carnival in an accessible way so that everybody can take part.

Active Communities Zone
The Horsham District is fortunate to have a wide range of creative talent on offer and some of these performers and artists will be on display at Sparks in the Park. In 2011 visitors were able to see performances from the Lemon and Lime Theatre, Phoenix Street Dance, Act 2, Fi-Steps, Vocademy and more.

Activities and stalls from local attractions and community groups are also on offer, including Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre and its Morris Minor BT telephone engineering van, Friends of Warnham Nature Reserve, The Holbrook Club, The Wealden Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, Sunbeam Swimming Club for the Disabled, South Downs Orienteers and more. The Rotary Club of Horsham and other charities will also be on hand providing traditional games and activities raising money for local good causes.

Sparks in the Park is organised by Horsham District Council with free entry and free parking across the town centre. A donation to The Rotary Club of Horsham will be requested from those choosing to park in Horsham Park.
