READY AND ABLE SPORTS CLUB

Golf ball and Club

The Ready and Able Club was set up in May 1991 as a joint initiative between Horsham District Council and Christ's Hospital School.  It is managed by Horsham Leisure Link, the District Council's Leisure Development and Outreach Unit.

The Club has one principle aim, which is to provide an hour and a half of meaningful sports activity and recreational enjoyment for people with disabilities.  Although all ages are welcome the club prioritises activities for people aged 16 and over.

Individuals that attend the Ready and Able Club acquire new skills, improve existing skills, learn co-operation and responsibility and are encouraged to support both fellow members and the smooth running of the club.  Many members have gained a true sense of purpose and accomplishment from their involvement in the club, resulting in spiritual growth and improved mental health.

The Ready and Able Club is one of the key gateways into 'district wide' leisure activities for people with disabilities (or mental health problems) and their friends and families.  Not only does it provide members with a weekly chance to try trampolining, swimming, football, short mat bowls, indoor tennis, indoor kurling, table tennis, board games, boccia, badminton, exercise bikes and other activities it also gives trained leisure professionals the chance to meet and get to know potential members and to assess their abilities and aspirations in the context of other opportunities in the district and county.

As a result of visiting Ready and Able several members have gone on to join Sunbeam Swimming Club, the Gateway Club and Forest Flyers Football Club.  Some have started attending Grasshoppers, Outburst or Leisure Link coaching courses.  Individuals have taken up blind golf, wheelchair racing, body building, competitive basketball and archery as a result of visiting Ready and Able and many have taken part in special competitive events and festivals.  Ready and Able gets you on the circuit and you get to find out about other things of interest like the Blue Oasis Nightclub for people with disabilities.

Ready and Able members have access to the main sports hall for an hour, the swimming pool for half an hour and can utilise the upper balcony for table games.  Christ's Hospital make no charge for these facilities and we are grateful for the excellent partnership contirbution we receive.  Members cannot use squash courts, join aerobics sessions or use the main fitness suite unless they become fully paid up members of Christ's Hospital Sports Centre.

Ready and Able meet every monday evening, 6:15pm - 8:00pm at Christ's Hospital Sports Centre.
