Learn how to reduce stress at work
05 Aug 2010
LOCAL companies and their staff are being invited to learn how to reduce stress at work.
Horsham District Council is committed to supporting local businesses and helping them succeed as well as assisting them in tacking the issue of work related stress.
For this reason, the Council is putting on two special seminars on Friday 10 September and Friday 17 September. Both courses take place in Horsham, last for a day, and are low cost. Any Horsham District business is welcome to attend.
The first training event is a one day course being held on Friday 10 September 2010. The 'Coping with Stress' course is for employees who have experienced work related stress. The course will cover:
- common causes of stress at work
- tips for addressing stress in the workplace
- how to maintain wellbeing at work, including learning about food and mood, exercise, mindfulness and positive self-talk
These issues will be discussed through a combination of exercises, group discussion and scenarios.
The second one day course is designed for line managers and is called 'Managers Managing Stress'. This course is being held on Friday 17 September 2010 and will cover:
- raising awareness and understanding of work related stress
- explaining the legal requirements relating to stress at work
- proactive and reactive stress management
- action planning and using tools for dealing with stress at work
This one day training event is highly interactive and contains a variety of group and individual exercises, including case studies, scenarios, questionnaires, group discussion, personal reflection and action planning.
The aim of both courses is to help local businesses protect their employees and meet their legal requirement to do so. Good health and safety management means better productivity as well as enhancing business reputation.
Both these courses are being run in partnership with the Sussex County Sports Partnership Trust’s Active and Healthy Workplace initiative to support the District’s businesses in addressing stress at work.
Both courses are subsidised and being offered at a low cost. Places are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. The courses are being held in The Committee Rooms, Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL.
