Planning application for new houses in Southwater
17 Aug 2010
A PLANNING application is to be submitted by Horsham District Council to build 30 homes on Council owned land in Southwater.
Horsham District Council owns an area of land measuring approximately three acres in an area located at the southern tip of Southwater village along the Shipley Road.
Part of this land was developed for affordable housing some 20 years ago. The remainder is open land and until recently has been used for grazing purposes.
The Council has decided to promote a scheme to develop the remaining area of land to provide affordable and market housing, both being much in demand in the locality. The sale of the land would raise finance, which would help support the provision of Council services.
Following a recent public consultation exercise, the Council now plans to submit a planning application for 30 residential units on the site – 18 will be for market sale and 12 (40 per cent) for affordable use.
The proposal would deliver a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes and will hopefully help meet local demand for affordable homes and smaller market homes.
If agreed, the houses would be designed and constructed to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (which means that means the homes will be constructed to a much higher than average standard of sustainability) and the Lifetime Homes Standard (which means that the house is built to be easily adapted to the needs of the household over time).
The application will be submitted late August and, if successful, determined by Horsham District Council’s Development Control (North) Committee meeting by the end of the year. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
Details of this and all planning applications once submitted are available on the Council website or by calling 01403 215187.
