Neighbourhood Wardens support Community-Link users
26 Aug 2010
USERS of the Community Link alarm system in Ashington are likely to benefit from a recent initiative.
Horsham District Council’s Neighbourhood Wardens will be visiting Community-Link users in Ashington to ensure they are getting the maximum benefit of the service.
Neighbourhood wardens help to reduce crime and the fear of crime, foster social inclusion, deter anti-social behaviour and care for the physical appearance and management of the neighbourhood.
Community-link is an initiative set up by Horsham District Council, where anyone who feels vulnerable for any reason can feel safer at home. There are currently over 1750 users in the Horsham District.
The person is able to rent a telephone based personal alarm from the Council, which provides a rapid response solution to any problem, regardless of what time of day or night it is. To get help, the person just has to press a remote trigger and the control centre will arrange help straight away.
Examples of people who may benefit from Community-Link include those who live alone, elderly people, disabled people or those who live in isolated areas.
The Council’s Neighbourhood Wardens for Ashington will be undertaking the check up visits for users of the service to ensure that they are getting maximum benefit and are fully aware of how to use the alarm.
The alarm costs £3.60 a week which includes the alarm unit connected to the resident’s phone line and trigger, installation of alarm and training, service calls and 24 hours a day, 365 days a year response to all calls.
