Horsham says hola! to Spanish exchange students
21 Jun 2012
A GROUP of Spanish students has made a special visit to Horsham District Council today (21 June 2012).
The students, aged 16 to 18, were visiting the College of Richard Collyer’s in Horsham as part of a student exchange programme taking place between 19 and 26 June.
The students are from Spanish school Instituto Cristobal Lozano in Hellin, close to Alicante on the east coast of Spain.
Having visited the Houses of Parliament yesterday, the group started its week in Horsham with a visit to Horsham District Council’s Chamber as part of the students’ education to find out about how local government works in different countries.
Cllr Leonard Crosbie, Chairman of Horsham District Council welcomed the group and led a special presentation given to the visitors.
"It was a real pleasure to meet with the students," said the Chairman.
"They were very enthusiastic to find out more about what the Council does, as well as about everything that’s going on around the District."
Ms Margarita Mortimer, Head of Spanish Studies at Collyer’s College in Horsham, said:
"We are always delighted to welcome our Spanish exchange students because it’s such a good opportunity for them to experience life in England as well as practise their language skills.
"The Collyer’s students and their families have been very accommodating.
"Visiting Horsham District Council and being welcomed by the Chairman has been a real experience for all of us."
Irene Fernandez, accompanying teacher for the Spanish students, added:
"We would like to thank the Council and Collyer’s for welcoming us so warmly.
"We have been coming to Horsham and the District Council for many years and it’s always been a real pleasure."
The students continued their educational week with visits to the Horsham Museum, Brighton and a second visit to London, as well as spending time with local students and their families.
