HYPER springs to action
9 November 2009
A HORSHAM based charity is to receive over £500 from a group of young people wanting to make a difference.
The Springboard Project, based in Hurst Road, Horsham, is to be presented with a cheque for £535, by young people from HYPER (Horsham Youth Council) on Monday 16 November.
The money was raised by HYPER at an event night in the summer for The Springboard Project. The organisation, which is a local volunteer based charity that offers activities for disabled children and young people, will be spending the money on trips and outings for their Horsham Buddy Scheme, which provides local disabled teenagers with positive activities during term time after school and at weekends.
Nigel Scott-Dickeson, manager of The Springboard Project, said:
“We were thrilled when we found out we were the charity chosen to be supported by HYPER and they all did a great job in raising the money for us.
“We intend to use the funds to arrange some exciting trips and outings with the money. I’m sure all the youngsters who come along to our Buddy Scheme will really appreciate and enjoy these opportunities, which are made possible with the support of our young volunteers who won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service last year.”
The money was raised through ticket sales, a raffle and donations during a fundraising night held in July. The event was organised by HYPER (Horsham Youth Council) with support from Highgain Promotions, Horsham District Council, Horsham Youth Centre Management Committee, The Springboard Project and West Sussex Youth Service.
Clare Ebelewicz, Senior Youth and Older Persons’ Officer for Horsham District Council, said:
“This is the first time HYPER has held a fundraising event where the young people on the Youth Council have organised an event for their peers from start to finish, that raised money for a local charity of their choice.
“These young people give up their time to help others and raise money for those that need it, but at the same time they learnt skills which will help them in the future. They should feel very proud of their efforts.”
HYPER was formed ten years ago to give 13-18 year olds living in and around Horsham an opportunity to put forward views in relation to local issues, and take action on matters that concern them. HYPER is supported by Horsham District Council.
