Council On Course With "Best Value " Programme

19th July 2001

HORSHAM District Council is on course with an out going programme to ensure that all of its services are provided according to the Government's "Best Value" criteria.

Like every local authority in the country, the council is undertaking a Best Value review of all its services. The rigorous and ongoing five year review aims to ensure that all public services offer the best possible value and services to residents and customers.

The Council has already reviewed a number of services, such as the district arts strategy and retained housing services. The second year reviews include services such as Environmental Health, Parks & Countryside services and Development Control & planning.

At last Thursday's Executive meeting of the council (12 July 01) the council received a report from its external auditors giving positive feedback on the second year of the Best Value programme and how ir has been managed. From this report, the council's Executive made a formal response welcoming the approach of the District Auditor and the recommended action plan.

Copies of the council's Best Value performance Plan, the Councils response to the auditors and the action plan are available in Council reception areas and local libraries or by contacting Bill Deakin (tel: 01403 215101. Email:bill.deakin@horsham.gov.uk).
