People Felt Well Consulted On Local Plan
25th July 2001
EIGHT out of ten people questioned said that Horsham District Council did a good job in last year’s consultation document on the housing implications of the Local Plan.
The Council’s Executive meeting (12 July 01) heard that a high level of public awareness had been achieved as well as considerable satisfaction with the way it had been publicised.
The survey, which was conducted by the Council, questioned 308 people.
Cllr David Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning & Transport, said: "It is vital that we are as effective as possible in gaining public opinion, particularly where difficult issues have to be addressed.
"This is especially so when decisions made now about the Local Plan will affect people for many years into the future.
"I am very pleased we have had such a ringing endorsement for the open and inclusive process we have followed."
The next stage of the Local Plan process is the consultation on the Council’s ‘Position Statement’, which rolls forward the Local Plan to 2006. This is currently the subject of consultation and all local residents are encouraged to put forward their views before the consultation period ends at the end of July.
