Horsham Praises Hospital Decision
30th January 2002
Horsham District Council has praised the recommendation for a new £273 million hospital to be built in Crawley, made by the South East Surrey and North West Sussex Health Services Review.
Councillor Jean Burnham, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Health & Housing, and a member of the Review Group, said: "This is fantastic news for the people of Horsham, Crawley and the surrounding areas. It is right that we get the health facilities to serve the needs of our growing population. There are no losers in the Review’s proposals as the point of delivery of health care will match the communities needs".
Councillor Phil Read who has led the Council’s efforts said: "We’re not there yet, it’s not a done deal, but this is a major step forward in making sure that local people get the health service that they need and they deserve. It is a triumph for the thousands of people who have campaigned tirelessly to achieve a new hospital.
Councillors Burnham and Read said: "We would like to thank the chair of the review, Peter Bagnall, and project director, Joe Silcock, for their hard work, and for keeping so many disparate parties on course over the last 12 months".
Note to editors:
The report and its conclusions will be discussed by the next meeting of the SE Surrey and NW Sussex Health Services Review Group to be held in Horsham District Council’s Council Chamber at 6.30pm on Thursday, January 31.
