The future of waste and recycling
13th April 2004
SOME important questions are being asked about recycling and the management of waste in the Horsham District.
In demonstrating its long term commitment to sustainable waste management, Horsham District Council is producing its third Waste Management & Recycling Plan.
The plan, which is produced in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990, is now at the consultation stage with a closing date of Friday 14 May 2004. It is scheduled to be debated by the District Council in September.
The agreed plan will dovetail with the emerging county-wide waste strategy.
Cllr Robert Nye, Cabinet Member for the Environment at Horsham District Council, is inviting all residents, groups and organisations to comment.
Questions like these are being asked:
- Are the District Council’s statements about waste policy appropriate and do they accurately reflect current and future priorities?
- Are targets for recycling achievable and sufficiently challenging?
- Is the action plan appropriate and does it address the key challenges facing the District Council in recycling and waste management?
- How would residents and others prefer to be consulted on future recycling and waste policies?
