Food Hazard Warning about fruit pies

28th May 2004

THE Food Standards Agency has today issued a warning to consumers that some pies in batches of three brands of fruit pies have been found to contain mould.

It is understood that this happened because a preservative was omitted during the production process.

The three affected brands, all made by Manor Bakeries, are: Mr Kipling Six Fruit Selection Dessert Pies, ASDA Six Assorted Fruit Pies and Tesco Summer Fruit Pies.

No other Mr Kipling, Asda or Tesco products are known to be affected.

While eating the mouldy pies is unlikely to be a significiant health risk, it could be unpleasant.

The products are believed to have been removed from the shelves, but people may still have them at home as the best before dates are up to 11 June.

Anyone who has a product from the affected batch should return it to their retailer and request a refund.

Further information is available from Horsham District Council’s Environmental Health team on (01403) 215415 or online at www.food.gov.uk
