Business rate revaluation

5th November 2004

AS PART of national legislation, all businesses will be subject to a new rateable value on their premises from 1st May 2005.

The actual amount businesses will pay in the Horsham District have yet to be determined, however the District Valuer has already produced a draft list.

Having said this, a new rate relief scheme is being introduced for businesses with a rateable value of less than £10,000 in order to reduce the burden on small sole traders.

The Council, which acts as a collector of the money on behalf of the government, is keen for business ratepayers affected by the new valuation and relief scheme to have an opportunity to examine and discuss the implications for them.

Two meetings have been arranged to provide relevant information, with speakers from the District Valuer’s Office and the District Council.

Invitations have already been sent to individual ratepayers who run businesses from premises with a rateable value of less than £10,000 per annum but anybody is welcome to attend.

The venues are:-

  • Thursday 25 November 2004 at 7pm, The Barn, Causeway, Horsham
  • Wednesday 1 December 2004 at 7pm, The Saxon Room, Steyning Centre, Steyning

Those interested in attending or finding out more information are asked to contact Jan Dayton at Horsham District Council on (01403) 215301 or by email: jan.dayton@horsham.gov.uk
