COUNCILLOR Andrew Purches has been elected as Horsham District Councillor for the ward of Bramber, Upper Beeding and Woodmancote at yesterday’s by-election (2 December).
Cllr Purches (Liberal Democrat) was elected by a majority of 38, with 585 votes. The Conservative candidate, Ann Howland, received 547 votes and the Labour Party candidate, Estelle Hilditch, received 41 votes.
Polling stations across the ward reported a turnout of 28.4%, with a total of 1175 votes being cast.
Overall, this means that Horsham District Council is comprised of 23 Conservative, 19 Liberal Democrat and 2 Independent members.
The by-election was held following the resignation of Cllr John Hewitt (Liberal Democrat) in October.
