New pull out and keep recycling and refuse guide

1st March 2006

THE LATEST edition of Horsham District News magazine will soon be delivered to all houses in the District.

The magazine, which comes from Horsham District Council, is being distributed along with the Council Tax billing information to all homes in the first two weeks of March.

Councillor Robert Nye, Cabinet Member with the Responsibility for Environmental Services and Public Health Control at Horsham District Council says that one particular bit of information in the magazine will be very useful for residents.

He said: “Inside Horsham District News you will discover a handy ‘pull out and keep’ recycling calendar and guide that you will need to retain as an aid to remembering which material is being collected in which week and how to manage Bank Holiday weeks.

“In addition there is helpful information about the type of material you can recycle.”

He added: “Recycling is of paramount importance and the Acorn recycling scheme has enabled residents of Horsham District to achieve a recycling percentage of which they can be justly proud.”

Since Acorn’s introduction in May 2003 Horsham District's recycling rate has risen from 13% to over 40% of all household waste and reduced rubbish taken to landfill by approximately 20%.

This is one of the highest rates in the UK.

Cllr Nye continued: “To help you maintain this excellent recycling record I urge you to go straight to the pull out section of the latest Council magazine and remove and keep the recycling calendar/guide in a handy location.

“To give you a head start it can be found on pages 24 and 25!”

He added: “Everyone seems so busy these days there is always a big demand for this information.  Personally, I find the calendar an excellent help in remembering what goes when.

“We are planning to continue publishing the calendar in the Horsham District News each year. In this way we can almost guarantee every household receives a calendar. Please keep an eye open for the next one in September.”

For an online version of the recycling and refuse calendar go to the Council’s website, alternatively call (01403) 733144 or email hopoast.depot@horsham.gov.uk for a copy.
