Rookwood Golf Course is a Green Winner

8th January 2007

Rookwood Golf Course is the winner of the South East region in the BIGGA (British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association) Golf Environment Award for the second year in succession.

The judging criteria included: Nature conservation; the controlled use of pesticides & chemicals; recycling & natural resource management; and education & communications.

This year, Rookwood’s water management practices were highlighted as a national example of best practice and, as previously reported in the West Sussex County Times, Rookwood uses no mains water on the golf course.

Stephen Blake, Rookwood’s General Manager said:

‘We are delighted with the news. We have always maintained the course with nature & the environment in mind. May 2007 will be our 10th anniversary and we have shown that it is possible to produce not only a high quality popular golf course but also the ideal neighbour to the Warnham Nature Reserve. We are now being recognised as a nature reserve in our own right and next year we hope to go one stage further and clinch the coveted national title.’
