Recycling resolutions
9th January 2007
NOW the New Year has started, why not make a resolution to cut down the amount of stuff thrown away and instead reduce, reuse and recycle?
Remember used real Christmas trees can be placed in the brown lidded green waste bin – chopped up, of course.
And all Christmas cards can also go in the green waste bin, or they can be held onto for next year to make homemade Christmas cards or decorations.
With lots of empty bottles around, to find the nearest bottle bank log on to Horsham District Council’s website, or call 01403 733144.
Wrapping paper and corrugated card can be taken to the household waste recycling site at Hop Oast on Worthing Road near Horsham and in Billingshurst on Newbridge Road. These sites are both open during the winter from Monday to Friday from 8am until 5pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9am until 5pm.
Unwanted gifts can be given to charity shops or sold on an auction website.
For any new electrical goods that need batteries, remember to buy rechargeable ones in order to reduce the amount of batteries thrown away each year.
To find the recycling/refuse collections relevant to postcode, log on to Horsham District Council’s home page to get a personalised calendar. Alternatively telephone 01403 733144 to have a calendar sent out.
Cllr Robert Nye, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Public Health Control at Horsham District Council, said:
“Reducing the amount of waste we throw away is ever so important and the New Year is a perfect time for making a change.
“By making a few changes and thinking carefully about what can be recycled or reused is a great way of making a difference.”
