Local produce markets start up for New Year
10th January 2007
TWO local produce markets in the Horsham District are starting up again from the middle of January.
The Southwater village and local produce market, which takes place in Lintot Square, starts again on Tuesday 16 January. The local produce market which takes place in the Carfax, Horsham, begins on Saturday 20 January.
When buying locally produced food and drink, District residents aren’t just making a statement about the standards of quality and flavour that they demand for the dinner table; they’re also helping to support an important part of District life.
Since the produce hasn’t had to travel vast distances to get to the market stall, there isn’t so much pollution and traffic congestion created in getting it there.
Nor do the goods require lots of preservatives to keep that ‘just picked’ freshness.
The standard of locally grown food around the District is extremely high, as the hundreds of visitors to last year’s West Sussex Food and Drink Festival would attest and there are a number of farmers’ markets held locally throughout the year.
Enquiries from local producers interested in taking a regular pitch at the Southwater or the Horsham market are welcomed.
