Snappy New Year

16th January 2007

THE first SNAP Dance Night for the New Year takes place on Friday 2 February in Horsham.

SNAP will take place between 7.30pm and 10.30pm and will be held at the town’s Drill Hall in Denne Road.

The occasion will include DJ Matt spinning the tunes in this alcohol and drug free night. South Coast Idol’s Cushh will be appearing and auditions for the Junior South Coast Idol competition will be taking place at this month’s SNAP night.

The South Coast Idol competition has been opened up to under 17s to give more young people the chance to become a star.

The winner of this competition will get to record their own album and with top judges such as Alesha from Mis-Teeq this event is likely to be popular.

Kirsty Lindgren, Youth and Older Persons Officer for Horsham District Council, said:

“The SNAP dance nights are always popular and we are really excited about South Coast Junior Idol auditions taking place.

“The nights have always allowed people to get out and enjoy themselves in a safe environment and I think that that is the reason why they are so popular. They are also a great place to socialise as they’re drug, tobacco and alcohol free.”

She added: “Membership of the SNAP dance project costs just £1 per year, and tickets to each event cost £5 but with a Leisure Access Card it costs only £2.50 per event; it’s a great way to have safe fun without spending a lot of money.”

SNAP stands for ‘Say No and Phone’ and is organised by Horsham District Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Sussex Police and Horsham District Council.

The initiative aims to help raise awareness of the harmful effects of drugs and its main aim is to give youngsters a place where they can party in safety.

More SNAP nights are booked in for March 20 and May 18.

Tickets can be purchased now from The Pavilions In The Park, Horsham or the Capitol Box Office on North Street, Horsham on 01403 750220, alternatively there will be a limited amount for purchase on the door.
