Take care near car park wall
19th January 2007
USERS of a busy car park in Steyning are being advised to take extra care near one of its walls.
Horsham District Council owns and operates the 44 space car park opposite the Clock Tower on Steyning High Street and one of the boundary walls has experienced some structural movement.
The brick and flint wall, which forms the boundary between the car park and 55 High Street, has experienced some movement in recent years and has been periodically monitored by District Council officers.
As a precautionary measure, it has been decided to erect temporary fencing adjacent to part of the wall to safeguard pedestrians and vehicles against any possible material dropping from the wall.
This will result in the temporary loss of six car parking spaces.
The fence will be erected next week (week commencing 22 January).
The Council will continue investigations and seek ways of remedying the problem whilst including neighbouring landowners in discussions.
The Council would like to thank anyone affected for their co-operation and understanding.
