NEWS RELEASES
Horsham young people given support
30th January 2007
A TEAM which will be offering advice to youngsters in Horsham will be operating in the town’s parks from May.
Horsham District Council, West Sussex Youth Service and the Anglican Parish and Brighton Road Baptist Church have come together to develop and run the project.
The Youth Support Team will operate in local parks between 7pm and 10pm Friday and Saturday from May until September.
The team will seek to work with the increasing number of young people congregating in the parks over the spring and summer months and on other specific days of the year.
Four teams will be formed to work on the project, with each team consisting of four volunteers from the churches and wider community.
Each team will operate one regular session every two weeks.
Volunteers will be trained in first aid, personal safety and child protection.
They will also be provided with relevant communication and first aid equipment, branded hooded tops and T-shirts.
The objectives of the project are:
- To increase the awareness of the support available to the young people of Horsham from the West Sussex Youth Service, Horsham District Council and other voluntary organisations.
- To raise awareness of safety and reduce the fear of crime.
- To raise awareness of socially acceptable behaviour
