Southwater Post Office re-opens 4 June

SOUTHWATER Post Office is due to re-open to the public on Monday 4 June.
The Post Office in the recently redeveloped village centre of Southwater, near Horsham, has been closed since the end of March and there were some fears locally that it would not re-open.
Now, thanks to considerable efforts by Horsham District Council, the Post Office and former village post office staff the facility is to re-open its doors.
Sub-postmaster Vanessa Heavens along with the same staff as before will be operating the facility, which will offer all of the usual post office services.
Explaining the District Council’s involvement, Cllr Philip Circus, Cabinet Member for the Local Economy at Horsham District Council, said:
“The Council has purchased the goodwill of the former business from the administrator in order to help keep the post office open in the interests of the recently developed Lintot Square lessees as well as the 10,000 strong community of Southwater as a whole.
“Together with the Post Office, we have worked hard to ensure that this important facility is not lost to the village and continues to be a focal point for the local community.
“The negotiations have not been straightforward and have only just been completed.
“I want to thank everyone for their hard work in helping to make this happen and I encourage everyone to use this Post Office and its range of facilities in order to show that its presence is really valued.”
Post Office Ltd's Simon Cross said:
"We are delighted to be able to re-open a branch in Southwater and would like to thank the Council for their active support in helping to make it happen.
“We echo the comments of Cllr Circus in urging people to use the facility."
Jeremy Senneck, Chairman of Southwater Parish Council, said:
“I want to thank Horsham District Council publicly for facilitating the re-opening of the post office.
“The post office is a vital to the success of Southwater’s Lintot Square village centre.”
Southwater Post Office can be found in Lintot Square, Southwater. It is open Mondays to Fridays 9am-5.30pm and 9am-12.30pm on Saturdays.
