Neighbourhood Council Elections: 12 July 2007
8th June 2007
HORSHAM’S three neighbourhood councils are up for re-election on 12 July.
The three neighbourhoods, Denne, Trafalgar and Forest, make up a large part of Horsham town and the elections are taking place to select neighbourhood councillors to run these busy councils.
Nominations for the three Neighbourhood Councils must be delivered to the Returning Officer at Horsham District Council by noon on Friday 15 June 2007.
Neighbourhood councils are similar to the parish councils that exist in the rest of the Horsham District but these cover the unparished areas of Horsham town.
Unlike the parish councils, neighbourhood councils have no statutory powers and are mainly consultative bodies.
It is important that nominations are made so that each neighbourhood receives enough representation – the area covers in total 19,000 electors.
Each neighbourhood has a particular number of seats to be filled. Denne has 11, Forest 13, and Trafalgar 7.
These seats have always been non political and are for people who want to help their local community.
If there is an excess number of nominations are received a poll will be held by postal ballot.
If not enough nominations are made all those who have been nominated will be elected and the new Council will have the opportunity to co-opt extra neighbourhood councillors.
To request a nomination form or for more information, please contact Horsham District Council (Electoral Services) on 01403 215126 or email elections@horsham.gov.uk.
