A warm hola to Spanish students
28th June 2007
FORTY Spanish exchange students have been welcomed to the Horsham District by Horsham District Council.
The Council Chamber at Horsham District Council had a distinctly European flavour on Wednesday (26 June) when 40 Spanish exchange students were welcomed by Council Chairman, Cllr Roger Paterson.
The students aged 16-18, were from Hellin near Alicante and were part of an exchange programme with the College of Richard Collyer in Horsham.
As part of the programme, which included visits in the South East and events in the college itself, the students visited the Chamber and took the opportunity to ask Cllr Roger Paterson questions about the Horsham District.
“It was an absolute pleasure to meet these students,” said Cllr Paterson.
“They seemed genuinely interested in the District and how it is run.
“It is great to welcome these young people into our community and I sincerely hope that they will remember their time here fondly and return in the future.”
Cllr Paterson introduced himself in Spanish to the students, who in turn were very good at asking questions in English.
A presentation was made using a translated version of the Council website, which is available in Spanish, French, German and Italian. Translation buttons can be found on the homepage of the site.
Head of Spanish studies at Collyer’s College in Horsham, Margarita Mortimer, said:
“It has been another wonderful experience, enjoyed by everyone involved and a fantastic opportunity for all the Spanish students to learn about the Horsham District.”
