Explore the market towns of the Horsham District and win £100
13th July 2007
AN ATTRACTIVE and informative ‘Explore the Horsham District’s market towns’ brochure and ‘passport’ has been produced for people to collect.
The initiative has come jointly from the Community Partnerships in the Horsham District to tempt more people into visiting each of the distinctively different smaller towns and villages of Billingshurst, Henfield, Pulborough, Steyning and Storrington.
The convenient ‘passport’ is included as an insert in each of the new brochures. The passport carries instructions about the scheme and space for collectors to add one sticker to the document from each of the five market towns.
The scheme works with participating shops and places to visit in Billingshurst, Henfield, Pulborough, Steyning and Storrington each displaying the ‘Passport’ message in their windows. In addition to that town’s sticker, visitors will also be able to pick up brochures and passports there too.
After anyone has collected all five stickers on their card (only one sticker is needed for each market town) they fill in their contact details and mail this off to be entered into the quarterly prize draw of £100.
Brochures are available through tourist information centres, libraries, passport sticker outlets in each of the towns and other visitor ‘hotspots’. Opportunities for wider distribution outside of the District are being sought.
The passport scheme takes its inspiration from the highly popular old ‘King & Barnes ale trail’ idea and if successful will be run on through next year with additional promotional support.
The Five Towns Community Partnerships are the promoter of the scheme having worked closely with Horsham District Council’s town centres management.
Funding has been provided by the Horsham District Community Partnership as an approved project that will contribute to the generation of additional economic activity within the Horsham District.

Editors notes:
Mechanics
- A ‘Passport’ that can be folded to the size of a credit card is an insert in each brochure.
- Brochures will be distributed throughout the Horsham District and beyond through tourist information centres, libraries, passport sticker outlets, and other visitor ‘hotspots’.
- A Passport pack of window sticker, sticker sheets and brochures/passports will be offered to town traders and other outlets by each town’s Community Partnership.
- Initially this will be free to local outlets - on a trial basis for six months – after which, if deemed successful, a contribution from each outlet will be requested which will go towards making the cost of the scheme sustainable over the longer term (re-printing brochures, producing supplies of stickers and replenishing the prize fund) plus a contribution to a full advertising programme next Spring
- The aim is to have at least 10 ‘Passport’ outlets operating in each town before the end of the six month trial period
- The Explore the Market Towns brochure is also available as a pdf file from Partnership sites and http://www.horsham.gov.uk/
- The project has been produced by the Five Towns Community Partnerships with support and funding from Horsham District Community Partnership and Horsham District Council.
- The passport competition is promoted by the Horsham District Community Partnership. Standard competition rules and conditions apply. No purchase is necessary. Full details are listed on each passport and are available on request.
