Interest remains high in allotments

6th August 2007

NATIONAL Allotment Week takes place this month from 13-19 August and the interest in them remains high in the Horsham District.

Allotments have become very desirable with many residents wanting to grow organic fruit and vegetables. Health benefits can also be gained from working outdoors, as proved by one Horsham tenant who has been tending his allotment regularly for more than 45 years.

There are eleven allotment sites around Horsham town, and three of these are administered by Horsham District Council. The other eight are controlled by individual societies – details of which may be found on the Council’s website.

The sites administered by the Council are located in Horsham’s Depot Road, Birds Farm and Clarence Road.

Outside Horsham town, there are allotments in many parishes across the District, and these are controlled by private societies or Parish Councils.  Full details can be found on Horsham District Council’s website.

The three sites run by Horsham District Council currently have waiting lists.

To find out more about the allotments across the Horsham District, contact Horsham District Council on 01403 215491 or visit the website.

For more details on National Allotment week visit The National Allotment Gardens Trust website.
