Joint effort leads to railway bridge improvements

15th August 2007

THE ROAD bridge over the railway line in Horsham’s North Street has seen a facelift thanks to joint efforts by Network Rail and Horsham District Council.

The bridge acts as one of the main entry points into Horsham and repairs were carried out recently to the full stretch of safety fencing and crash barriers. New ornamental railings were also installed.

Repainting of the railings, litter picking and weeding also took place.

Network Rail had existing plans for the maintenance to be carried out and, with help from the Council, it was able to make sure the important safety work was completed recently.

Speaking of the works, Horsham District Council’s Principal Civil Engineer, Bob Sinclair, said:

“The bridge is a gateway into Horsham town and so is an important feature and it now provides a better quality entrance to the town for residents and visitors alike.”

Network Rail Sussex Route Director Fiona Taylor said:

“Network Rail appreciates the importance of working in partnership with local councils to ensure that, in instances such as this, residents and visitors can benefit from improvements that contribute to the overall appearance of communities.”
