NEWS RELEASES

By-election on 11 October 2007

4th September 2007

A BY-ELECTION is likely to be held in the District ward of Holbrook West on Thursday 11 October 2007.

The vacancy is for a seat on Horsham District Council and follows the resignation of Cllr Roger Edworthy, who resigned as district councillor on 3 September 2007.

If the seat is contested, a by-election will take place. If only one candidate comes forward (by 14 September), then he or she will be elected unopposed and without the need to hold a poll.

Assuming a by-election is taking place, polling cards will be sent to all affected residents in the Holbrook West ward from 19 September and the last date for making postal vote applications will be 5pm on 26 September. The 26 September is also the last date for people to apply to be added to the current electoral register for this election.

Postal votes will be sent out to electors on 1 October.

Polling will take place from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 11 October 2007 and all electors for the ward will use one polling station at The Tythe Barn in Pondtail Road, Horsham.

A map showing the location of the polling station will be printed on the polling cards.

The results of the by-election are expected to be available on 12 October 2007 and will be published in the District Council’s and Parish Councils’ offices, on the Council's website and they will be circulated to the media.

The information will also be available by calling 01403 215126.

Ends

Note to editors:

A list of persons nominated to stand for this by-election will be available from Horsham District Council from noon on 14 September. Candidates can withdraw up to noon on 19 September.
