Health Walks available all year
6th September 2007
THE SECOND annual Horsham District Health Walks Festival is being described as a success despite the unusually wet summer.
The walks were well attended and the try out sessions of Nordic walking were especially popular with at least 30 people trying this new form of being physically active.
As part of the festival, an event was organised to mark the 10 year anniversary of the Shopmobility scheme. This was an interesting spectacle with 15 scooters joining walkers to ramble around Horsham’s Chesworth Farm and a free cup of tea enjoyed by all participants in the cafe at Beales in the Forum, Horsham.
The end of the Health Walks Festival does not mean the end of the popular health walks however; a continuous programme is offered over the whole year and there are plenty more walks to take advantage of over the next month and into the autumn.
Volunteers are putting together the finishing touches of the autumn programme which will be available at the end of September, enabling people to walk throughout the year.
There are differing lengths of walks and something to suit everyone, and are offered in different areas and on different days throughout the District. All are led by trained volunteer leaders and all are free, no need to book, just turn up!
A free training day for walk leaders is being run in Horsham on 15 September from 9.30am to 4.30pm, to book please contact Horsham District Council on 01403 215269.
For more details and a free programme of walks in the Horsham District, please contact Horsham District Council on 01403 215269 or visit the website where the full programme can be found.
