Horsham Youth BikeFest - 14th October 2007

27th September 2007

Youngsters of all ages in the Horsham area are being invited to strut their stuff at Horsham Youth Bikefest, a free event that will celebrate all what is fun in cycling.

Bikefest will run at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre on Sunday 14th October (10am-4pm) and will incorporate various two-wheeled opportunities. Centrepiece activities will include track races in the centre’s stadium arena, daredevil displays from professional trial-bikers, skills competitions, a supervised road ride and a mountain bike excursion.

Various agencies and volunteers have been brought together in collaboration by Horsham District Council’s Leisure Link team to stage the event. Halfords will be providing free bike checks and speed tests, the British Cycling Federation are running Go-Ride challenges and will no doubt be on the look out for new talent and Brighton Excelsior CC will be bringing computerised I-Magic kits that translate pedalling effort into digitally projected scenarios.

Although the day is targeted chiefly at young people it is expected and welcomed that many parents will want a piece of the action. A Treasure Hunt challenge for younger children will specifically invite adult participation. For the practically minded there will be advice for protecting your bike from security experts and for the more cerebrally inclined there will be a quiz linked to a display of antique cycles.

Opportunities to spin bike, tandem ride and engage in a Cyclebatak challenge complete the fantastic line-up. Spot prizes will be available throughout the day. Even if it rains most of the activity will still proceed as most of the activities can be accommodated indoors if necessary.

The aim of the event is to stimulate enthusiasm and ideas in support of the new Horsham Youth Cycling Club that is soon to be launched by a number of local volunteers.
