Got a community project that needs funding?

1 October 2007

MANY local community projects require funding to get things off the ground and Horsham District Council has a dedicated officer to help and advise on funding and grants.

Funding can seem a daunting prospect which means many potential groups do not progress beyond the initial stages.

There are many possible funds available besides the Lottery, and Horsham District Council can provide free advice on such sources as well as help with applications.

The Council can also sometimes offer limited funding towards such projects if external sources are unavailable.

Nearly £18 million in Lottery funding has been attracted into the Horsham District since its inception in 1994, with grants ranging from £3.5 million for Pavilions in the Park leisure complex in Horsham to grants of hundreds of pounds from Awards for All (the small, community arm of the Big Lottery Fund).

The Awards for All scheme has brought in nearly £1 million of the £18 million awarded in the Horsham District on its own and the maximum award was increased to £10,000 in April 2006.

Since 2002 over £2 million has come into the Horsham District from non-Lottery sources, with the main contributors being Landfill Tax Credits - generated by Government payments to landfill operators to enable them to support projects in the vicinity of tips - and the Gatwick Airport Community Trust.

Arts or sports groups or any voluntary organisation with a new project idea needing funds can contact Horsham District Council’s Funding Officer Howard Collins on 01403 215358 or email howard.collins@horsham.gov.uk for an initial discussion.
