Funding for community projects given green light
30th October 2007
A PIONEERING project to help local teenagers with a history of anti-social behaviour gain positive skills is one of six community initiatives to receive cash backing.
Funding for this and other local community projects has recently been given the go ahead by the Board of the Horsham District Community Partnership which has agreed to provide funding for six specific projects set to benefit the Horsham District.
The financial support is the latest in a series of community initiatives which have been enabled in a similar way in recent years. Projects that have benefited in the past range from support to the District’s parents and carers to funding the production of leaflets to promote the Horsham District’s five market towns.
The initiatives now set to benefit are:
- a scheme to help targeted local teenagers with a history of anti-social behaviour or offending attain positive skills such as team work and effective communication
- intergenerational work to help young and older residents across the District understand each other better
- work to increase local awareness about mental health issues for young people more work to assess housing needs in the Horsham District
- provision of mopeds for younger residents unable to find local transport to help them get to work
- support for the Billingshurst Community Project in producing a plan for sustainable service provision in the rural community of Billingshurst
A total of £20,000 has been provided in this latest round of funding. This makes a running total of £36,000 funding provided by the Partnership to local projects since February 2006. The funding is provided by West Sussex County Council, which in turn has received the money from the Government from what has been known as a Public Service Agreement.
The projects all fall within the remit of the Horsham District Community Partnership to help bring organisations and people together to help further improve the quality of life for everyone living and working in the area.
