Green bus trial for park and ride

31st October 2007

A UNIQUE and locally designed bus visited Horsham District Council’s offices recently before its trial on Horsham’s Park and Ride route.

The environmentally friendly vehicle was created by Traction Technology, based in Slinfold, and will be trialled at off peak times from November between the Hop Oast depot and Horsham town centre.

The cutting edge technology reduces noise and carbon emissions and uses less fuel than an ordinary bus, which is especially beneficial in quieter periods when the buses are not always at full capacity.

The bus visited the Council’s offices in North Street, Horsham on 17 October to give Councillors and staff an opportunity to see the vehicle first hand.

Representatives from Traction Technology and bus company Arriva, which runs the Hop Oast route, were present to answer questions and provide information about the unique design.

Councillor Robert Nye, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability at Horsham District Council, commented:

“This is a pioneering piece of technology produced in the Horsham District and I am delighted that it will be used here in Horsham.

“It is important that we encourage alternative forms of transport and this bus not only helps alleviate traffic but is environmentally friendly too.”
