Storrington Old Mill Drive Diamond planning consultation
7th November 2007
DRAFT planning guidelines for the future development of the Old Mill Drive Diamond area of Storrington are to be the subject of a six week public consultation period starting on 9 November.
The planning brief is being used primarily to interpret general development plan policies on a more site specific basis to help guide and attract prospective developers and it sets out Horsham District Council’s vision and framework for any future development of the Old Mill Drive site in Storrington.
The potential development area is situated centrally in Storrington, it is diamond in shape and extends from the shops fronting the High Street known locally as ‘The Colonade’ in the south, to a row of mixed service and business units in the north fronting Mill Lane.
This part of Storrington, which includes the Old Mill Square shopping precinct, is locally regarded as having had a lack of investment and is in need of a revamp that will greatly enhance its appearance. The general view is that it is an old fashioned disjointed area of development that does not live up to its potential as an economic hub for the village and the surrounding areas.
Because of a recent rise in developer interest in the site Horsham District Council, backed by strong local Councillor support, is now taking the opportunity to promote and guide a more efficient future development of this important area of economic activity, by encouraging a more joined up development that will open up the site and create a new heart for Storrington.
The draft document soon to be out for consultation contains proposals about how to make more efficient use of the surrounding infrastructure and enhance the links with the High Street shopping accommodation.
The planning brief forms part of the Horsham District Local Development Framework.
The six week public consultation on the draft planning brief document starts on Friday 9 November 2007 and runs until Friday 21 December 2007, giving the public a chance to help shape the future of this important site.
The document is available on the Strategic Planning website or as a hard copy from the District Council’s Park North offices in North Street, Horsham or Storrington and Horsham Libraries.
Comments can be made by the use of comments forms available at the libraries or from the District Council’s offices.
