Horsham Youth Council goes tribal

15 January 2008

HORSHAM Youth Council took part in an African dance workshop last week (9 January) as part of a team building exercise.

The “Tribal Groove” workshop encourages respect for others and enhances communication skills.

It also gives youngsters aged 14-16 the chance to learn African body percussion dance techniques that combine dancing and making music in one.

The rhythms are used as a vehicle to convey the importance of listening to each other and working as a team.

Speaking of the workshop, Youth and Older Person’s Officer at Horsham District Council Shelley Denman said:

“The workshop was intended to increase communication and listening skills within the group, as well as act as a team building exercise.

“I am really pleased that members of the Youth Council enjoyed it and hopefully will benefit in the long term too.”

Horsham Youth Council is a group of 13-18 year olds that meet fortnightly to put forward its views and ideas to Horsham District Council and take action on issues which concern them.
