Information mornings for local groups

22 January 2008

LOCAL voluntary and community groups are being invited to an information session to raise awareness about the Partnership for Older People Project (POPP).

The POPP project aims to improve services for older people in the Horsham District and to ensure that services work together in an efficient manner.

Horsham Area Council for Voluntary Service, Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council are keen for all organisations working with older people to have a chance to hear about this programme and to help raise awareness. Two information sessions are being organised.

The sessions will help groups to find out more about POPP, how it will benefit the District, how their organisation can benefit from the project, and what to do if they are interested in becoming involved.

People representing these groups will also have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or expectations they may have with regard to POPP. It will be a chance to meet with some of the POPP team together with local District officers involved.

The meetings will be held on:

Wednesday 12 March, 1.30 pm - 4.30pm at the Steyning Centre, Fletchers Croft, Steyning
Wednesday 19 March, 1.30 pm - 4.30pm at the Roffey Millennium Centre, Crawley Road, Horsham

Tea and coffee will be provided. Spaces are limited so booking in advance is recommended.

For more information or to book a place, please contact Horsham District Council’s Youth and Older Persons Officer on 01403 215137 or email clare.ebelewicz@horsham.gov.uk

Notes to editor

In December 2006 West Sussex County Council and West Sussex Primary Care Trust were successful in a bid for Department of Health funding to support joined up provision of services for older people in the Horsham District.

The aim of POPP is to invest in substantial local projects and infrastructure in order to:-

  • improve access and information on a wider range of health improvement services for older people
  • support older people and carers in need of that ‘little bit of help’ to access, design and arrange services to meet their individual needs
  • promote healthy ageing and lifestyles by increasing the number of active older people participating in volunteering and employment in health and social care settings, and;
  • further develop the range of activities and services that older people can engage in through training, support and advice.
