Scrutiny work programme underway

MATTERS of local interest are being investigated by the Scrutiny and Overview Committee at Horsham District Council.
The all party Council committee assists in the strategic development of Council policy and scrutinises the Council's decision making processes.
Last year members and staff at the Council, community groups, parish and neighbourhood councils and the public were asked for their views on what should be included.
Amongst other topics, the new work programme now underway is focussing on public transport, hospital provision, community partnership issues, the way grants are made to community organisations and the provision and emptying of litter and dog bins.
There are various Working Groups that sit under the Scrutiny and Overview umbrella, such as Budget Review, Social Inclusion and other ad hoc groups. All of the Council Working Groups will also make recommendations to further improve the areas they have investigated.
Speaking of the new work programme, Cllr David Sheldon, Chairman of the Scrutiny & Overview Committee at Horsham District Council, said:
“We value very highly the suggestions that are made by the people who make up our district.
“They reflect what is important, make a difference to every day life, and can identify potential areas that the Council should address.
“We are now getting on with the business of looking into these subjects and very much welcome members of the public to attend our Scrutiny and Overview Committee meetings.”

At its next meeting on 11 February the Committee will be discussing the Council’s budget for the coming year.
