No Smoking Day – 12 March 2008
6 March 2008
NO SMOKING Day is an annual, one day health awareness campaign which helps smokers who want to give up.
The event is now in its twenty fifth year and 2008’s “Great No Smoking Day Challenge” invites individual smokers who are trying to give up to become part of the national event.
Horsham District Council will be supporting No Smoking Day by having a display for the event in its reception at Park North, North Street Horsham from the 10 -14 March.
This will include information and support links for those who want to give up smoking, and on Monday and Friday at 11am visitors will be able to have carbon monoxide testing courtesy of West Sussex Primary Care Trust.
It is important to set achievable targets when giving up smoking, so the challenge will begin with giving up for a week, and then advance in progressively bigger steps. This will provide smokers with the confidence to give up permanently.
It has been recognised that giving up smoking can be an extremely difficult challenge, and therefore having the support of a larger group could make this easier.
The “No Smoking Day” charity provides support and information which may be beneficial to people who are trying to stop smoking.
More information, advice and free downloads for people who would like to take part in the challenge, or who want to organise an event can be found at: http://www.nosmokingday.org.uk/
